Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is probably my favorite day of the year. I used to love it because it was the time of year when the wind would blow the dry leaves around, and it was so nice to be inside a cozy home surrounded by my family. As I've gotten older, my view of the things I am grateful for has expanded. I'm still very grateful for my most excellent family, but I'm grateful for so much more.

And, of course, I'm grateful for everyone who stops by here and joins in on our discussions and debates about the beautiful art of fiction writing. I love learning about all of your lives: your stories, your publishing experiences, your rants and raves, your lifestyles. I admire the people who balance their lives with work or family, including taking care of family members that need a lot of care. I'm thankful for people who are willing to talk about their publishing experiences with the hopes of helping others who are going through the same thing. Most of all, I'm really just grateful that the internet allows all of us to find each other so that we don't feel so alone doing this thing that requires so much alone time.

I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Thank you all so much for supporting our blog and sharing yours as well!

I'm actually attempting to make my first Thanksgiving dinner today, which also means that I'm home and will be checking in here throughout the day. So, feel free to leave comments if you want. Talk about anything: writing questions, brining, story progress, pumpkin pie, NaNo, internal meat temperatures, Harlequin, stuffing, Tolstoy. Did I mention Tolstoy?

What are you grateful for? Shout it out to the world!!!

  1. I'm grateful I don't have to cook today. Internal temperature is usually around 165. External temperature is around boiling depending on which sister-in-law shows up first.

I'm grateful for my daughter and my dogs, my computer and internet that has allowed me access to people like you Davin, and Scott, and Michelle. Thank you guys for all you do, say, write, make us think about, create.

  2. Thanks for posting, Davin! I love your grateful words, and it makes me realize how grateful I am for the friendships I've build here through the blogosphere. Truly, I've rarely in my life met so many talented, friendly, and wonderful people. Thanks for your friendship, all of you. I appreciate it all so very much.

Davin, good luck with your turkey. And read some Tolstoy today. You should get a picture of you reading Tolstoy next to the cooked turkey. I'll bet it turns our beautifully. :)

  3. I, too, am grateful for the extended community of writers on the internet, people who take their craft and vocation seriously, and who are willing to extend themselves for those who, like me, are just starting out on the journey. (And yes, this includes you three LitLab members.)

Happy Thanksgiving, folks. And happy reading/writing over the long weekend!

  4. A first T-dinner on you! May it meet all your expectations. It really is a way to spread the love.
I am grateful, of course for friends and family, but this year I particularly am thankful for all the writers I've met online. It has boosted my faith in people to chat with so many helpful, considerate, smart, thoughtful, creative people.
And who would've known I'd do NaNo and make it. Knock on wood. I'm almost there!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. And, if you don't mind, please visit my blog today for a different take on my gratitude.

  5. The duck's roasting, the sauce is reducing, the kids are happily hidden in their blanket fort. I have a few moments to come over.

I never would have thought a community built over the internet could be anything be shallow but I was wrong. Sure it has its limitations, but I do feel a real kinship with writers I've met on the blogs. And I think I know why: we use words, and words are powerful.

So I am thankful to have found a writing community, people who share their writing, their experiences and their lives generously.

Have a great thanksgiving, Davin, Michelle and Scott.

On an aside,L I once caused a fire when I got so engrossed in reading that the flames leaped into the pan and found the oil! And it wasn't even Tolstoy! (see. I got my Tolstoy reference in.)

  6. Good luck on your dinner, Davin. (I think you're going to find it really isn't that hard...people make it seem like roasting a turkey is harder than throwing it in a pan and closing the oven door.)

    I love your post.

  7. Anne, thanks for stopping by and providing the info! Hopefully your external temperature doesn't quite reach boiling. I've already started snacking in preparation for tonight's dinner!

Michelle, I've been reading Tolstoy to the turkey for the last two days. How else am I going to make it tender? :P

Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Simon!

Tricia, Good luck on Nano! I've been fading, but I didn't put very much pressure on myself. I'm at thirty thousand words, but I'm not sure I will even try to finish. Please write for the both of us!

And, I'll check out your blog post!

Yat-Yee, now you're going to get an extra treat from Santa, I'm sure of it. He's a big supporter of Tolstoy. Man, I miss those blanket forts!

  8. Thanks a lot, Shelley! I tend to make things more complicated than they need to be. My worst enemy for this cooking experience will probably be myself, LOL. :)
