I never had a chance to say goodbye to one of my favorite painters, Cy Twombly, when he passed away a few weeks ago.
Now, with the death of Lucian Freud--such an amazing painter of flesh!--another important artist is gone.
Both of these artists are people I would love to have known while they were still alive. Luckily for me, there are still other painters and writers and artists that I admire and that still make wonderful things. I've made attempts to contact some of them, but I must try harder! Perhaps this weekend I will write letters to those people before it's too late.
Happy Friday, everyone. Enjoy the art and make some of your own!
A good friend from grad school introduced me to Lucien Freud. Sad to hear that he's gone.
ReplyDeleteAlso? I've been stuck in my own little world for the past--how long?--and haven't made it here. I miss it and hope to be back very soon.
Yat-Yee, I've been stuck in my own world too. I spent much of last week and this week moving, and now Michelle and Scott are out of town for a few days. But we'll be back to our regular routine soon. I've set up my writing space and writing always leads to blog post topics and questions for me. :)
ReplyDeletea good reminder to make those contacts and say those words. thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great reminder to reach out and praise those that we admire. I've enjoyed writing letters to authors who I drool over, but it never occurred to me to contact other kinds of artists. Painters seem too much creatures of a different plane! So your point is well taken. Thanks!
